Longer Brown Line Commute to Start 3/1/2013

If you frequent the Brown line, be prepared for delays for two 9 days stretches in March and April! A “comprehensive alternative service plan incorporating additional bus service, shuttle buses, some rerouted trains, and a Loop shuttle train” will be in place to help alleviate some of the delays caused by the service interruption.

The Chicago Transit Authority will begin closures to the Brown Line this Friday, March 1st, 2013 to begin repairs to the Wells Street Bridge. The announcement of the closures came in early February. Service will begin being affected at 10pm Friday, and will resume full service again Monday, March 11th.  A second construction period will begin Friday, April 26th and remain closed until Monday, May 6th.

Construction to the bridge will be being performed by the CDOT as well as the CTA concurrently. The extensive reconstruction includes the rebuilding of the bridge’s leaf which raises and lowers to allow boat traffic to travel the Chicago River and replacement of tracks on and near the bridge.
